Letter Writing: Letters to the soldiers are very important. Letters written by kids are especially important and welcomed!  We will be happy to include letters in our packages. 

Sending Packages: VFW Post 8235 will provide the boxes and take the packed boxes to the Post Office for shipping. Packing days are a great time for kids and young adults to get involved. We encourage groups like the Boy and Girl Scouts to participate. Donating items and packing boxes for the Troops is also a great way to earn merit badges. Notice of packing days will be given via email and posted on our website at www.vfwpost8235.net

Best Cookies for Shipping:  What a great gift! Your best bet is cookies that are somewhat moist and flexible; this would include most drop cookies such as oatmeal or oatmeal raisin. Bar cookies or brownies without frosting travel the best.

We don't recommend shipping brittle cookies such as lace cookies, gingersnaps or other thin wafers, or cookies that are too crumbly, like sand tarts or shortbread. Cookies with sprinkles, powdered sugar or icing may not arrive in good shape either. All Cookies should be brought in a day are two before the actual packing date so they will be arrive in country as fresh as possible.

Packing Cookies: To help make sure gift cookies arrive intact, pack them well in layers of wax paper and paper towels. Keep the cookies between layers of wax paper so that they won't lose moisture to the paper towels; the paper towels are just the cushioning between the layers of wax-paper-wrapped cookies.

 
No mouthwash items: We are not accepting any type of bottled mouthwash at this time (sealed or not). This is because some people (not associated with the VFW) sent alcoholic beverages in mouthwash containers and U.S. Customs Officials found them. Now all mouthwash containers are being pulled from packages going to Iraq, Afghanistan by U.S. Customs.

Delivering Items to the VFW: Items can be delivered to VFW Post 8235, 7 days a week, between the hours of 12:00 noon to 7:00pm.
